Bulgarian bon bons.
I'm so sleepy I could cry. Wanna know why? (ugh... unintentional rhyming, slap me with a stick please). A four minutes past midnight showing of the new Harry Potter movie perhaps? Yep.
(For those of you who haven't seen it yet, you can either stop reading right now or you can read on hoping I won't come up with too many spoilers. I can't promise anything. But if you've read the books, there won't be anything new)
I'm always skeptical to the HP movies. The two first ones really sucked and the last one was better, but not amazing. I'm very passionate about the books, and have probably read all of them enough times to know them practically by heart.
I love the whole concept of the Hogwarts school, and the magical community. And the books are so wonderfully written, with all its inventions and ideas.
All credit to Mike Newell for being able to put this into the film. Visually, it was gorgeous, and another thing, you could recognise the whole exterior of the castle from the last film. But it was breathtaking, and the special effects were much better this time.
The underwater scenes from the second triwizard test was great, and the appearance of the Durmstrang ship also. All in all, a lot of eye candy that put me right into the world of Harry Potter.
"Harry Potter and the goblet of fire" is the longest of the books so far, which means a lot of stuff had to be cut out. Where you can keep several "threads" going at once in a book, doing so in a movie will often be confusing, especially in a movie with the targeted age group of this one.
But it didn't really give me the feeling of missing out on anything. The only place it felt akward, was in the beginning when the kids are going to the Quidditch world cup. They're all of a sudden there, we get to see their tiny but big tent and get to see the teams of Ireland and Bulgaria fly in over the stadium. Then all of a sudden there's panick and every tent is on fire.
It felt very "oh no, we have to cut out some parts because the movie is too long now".
But the rest was amazing. A perfect blend of scary and hilarious.
For those of you who's going to see it (females), look forward to the entering of the Bulgarian Bon Bons. That was seriously ass-kicking. (But how come Krum was so good looking?)
And bring some kleenex. I'm not a bawler, and I can count on one hand the movies I've bawled to (Romeo + Juliet, Fahrenheit 911, Titanic when the mum reads to the kids while the ship sinks). But I bawled at this.
All in all I had a great movie experience yesterday. And paying for it now by being so damn tired... sleeepy!
