Why I hate wood.

OK, I don't hate the material wood.
But I don't like pale wood furniture. Such as any form of pine and birch.
Why?
Pine was a big hit in the 80s and 90s here in Norway. It was "cosy" (a word Norwegians seriously over-use) and reminded everyone of their favorite pasttime, going away to their small, cramped cabins out in the woods where everything was made of wood.
Mum, being German, wasn't used to seeing all this wooden furniture and fell head over heels. Result? The whole bloody house is furnitured with pine wood stuff. *cringe*
So... yeah. I grew up in pine hell.
Love and I have one piece of pine furniture. Our tv/stereo bench. Love bought it when he moved out from his parents and still likes it.
But I have my heart set on chucking it out, bah! Mainly because it doesn't match any of our furniture. We have cast iron living room tables (with glass plates... goodness, that was a bad idea!), white Billy IKEA shelves (love them! :D) and our dining room furniture, although being massive wood, is glazed in a cherrywood like colour. Our bed and bedside tables are also cast iron (which makes mother in law nervous 'cause she heard of someone getting struck by lightening in a cast iron bed). Well, my desk is pale wood, but it's fake. And borrowed. So it doesn't count! *lol*

Birthday calendar

I've started keeping a birthday calendar so that I can keep up with both friends and familys (particulary Love's HUGE family) birthdays. 'Cause I kinda really suck at doing so...
Well, apparently it isn't helping! Apparently one must remember to LOOK at the calendar to see keep up with the birthdays also, not just write them in there. *sigh* It's never easy, is it?

I'm so so sorry, Eileen!
Happy happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday to you,
you live in a zoo
with the monkeys and the donkeys
and you smell like one too!

Love ya, schnuppa! :)

(Maybe I can borrow Nevilles remembrall?)

80s, nightmare or fun?

According to Eurogamer.net, Sony released the track list for a SingStar 80s special that will be released in November.
Can't wait to belt out "I wanna know what love iiiiiiis, I waaant you to shoooow meeeeeeeee" in an intoxicated state. Must arrange for mad party when its released, yes.
My goodness... It's really coming back to haunt us, the 80s.
FoFuSa wrote something about that in her blog today also. The icky 80s that is. What is it about the 80s that makes us either shake our heads or grin sheepishly?
Of course, it was a cheesy decade. I've never recovered from being exposed to all those pastel colours. And I'm reduced to a curled up, shaky human ball whenever I hear any Katherina and the Waves songs. *shudder*
But I go all mushy when I see my old friends, the Carebears in toy shops nowadays. I almost brought a big version of the pink one with the rainbow, but it was a bit too expensive.
I've also seen some Cabbage Pail (sp?) kids around, which made me wonder where I put my old one. Probably in the attic at my parents'. Of course, her dress was in brown earth tones, not bright pink, but the face is still the same.
But I will always frown when I think of what mum made me wear back then. I still remember a horrible college sweater with fish on it. And a matching skirt and shirt with pearls and lace.
And seriously bad hair. Like in the video I mentioned in this post. (Hey, it still makes me laugh, even though I first feared I would go blind from seeing that yellow zebra spandex suit.)

The things they say... #2

I was trying out a new recipe for dinner today, and before I left for school this morning, Love wanted to remind me of getting the ingredients I needed.

He told me to remember to buy an aborigin.

Well, first off I'm not so sure they have those at my local super market. Second, I don't think an aborigin would want to be chopped up and added to my food.
Third, I'm not a cannibal.

What Love meant to say was of course aubergine.
Except what I really needed was a squash.
Oh well, you say potato, I say...

(And no, I don't feel guilty about making you a laughing stock again, sweetie.)

Concert.

Yesterday Love and I went to Oslo for a free open-air concert. "Lord of the Rings in Symphony" actually. We were early and got good seats, while around 34 000 people had to stand *evil laughter*
Aftenposten's photos of the event
It was fabulous! I'm fanatic about the LotR soundtrack and know it by heart, so this was a huge experience for me. Even when it started raining the last half hour (and us being so not prepared as it hadn't been a cloud in the sky when we left home), it was awesome.
Afterwards we went straight home. Being soaked, I wasn't really tempted at staying for the a-ha concert later that night. Oh well, honestly I'm not an a-ha fan at all, so I wouldn't've anyway. Ha ha.
But LotR was great! I was grinning like a madman almost all the way though the two hour long symphony and had chills up my spine regularly.

So... How was your weekend?

Important notice.

Will as of tomorrow move out of apartment and into car. Will leave piggies in care of boyfriend, as he needs to do something to make up for insulting Pea big time (see comment, last post).
Hopefully boyfriend will apologize before Frost, or I will be very cold sleeping in Pea during the night. Not to mention uncomfortable.

Fun for aspiring Dr. Evils.

Today was "funny sports day" at school. Which I originally didn't intend on going to. But a friend asked me to tag along and I did.
And I don't regret it one inch.
Who knew paintball could be so much fun? It was completely free, so even though I was terrified of the whole idea, I agreed to join an all girls team to fight a team of rather pansy boys.
Whoooo! I was the last one standing of my team when it was down to a one-on-one between me and a really tall dude.
Well, I didn't really stand much chance because I'm a fraidy cat and hid behind the first obstacle I could find. And stayed there the whole match, peppering the surroundings with paint balls.
Aim? Err... Awful. I wasn't wearing my glasses either, and being a bit near sighted, it made it hard to aim properly. I mean, I could see orange things moving around, but half of them were my own team *LOL*
But boy, what a rush! It was too cool for words! And totally harmless. I got hit, but it didn't hurt at all.

Oh, and I tried to beat the world record in screaming the loudest. I meassured in at 118 dB, together with a friend. The people doing the recording actually stepped back. *evil laughter*
They were surprised that we could get such a reading when considering how high-pitched I screamed.
Now my throat hurts... ow.

Been looking around for a new car today also. Online, that is. Pea is still running, but I dunno for how long. She makes squeaky noises when doing left turns now. And all the time if we have someone riding with us.
I did a little research on how other Fiestas of that age compare to Pea considering the mileage, and... well... she's been around, you know. 640 000 km since 1986. I'm not even sure that's right, because 250 000 km was the highest number on the rest of the 1980s Fiestas I found. It could be, of course, that the meter has run amok, but it doesn't look like it. Which if it really is right, means Pea is an extrordinary old lady. And the engine still runs like clockwork. It's all the other stuff that starts to go haywire. Too bad, because I love the simplicity of Pea's lines and whole interior. She's a purty car, even if she is old.
It's just that now when I start to distrust her more and more... I have a feeling she won't last much longer. She has probably not been used much the last couple of years. I know mum didn't drive much with her anyway. And now that we take several longer trips with her, the deterioration has accelerated.
Bah... I want another Pea. I don't want some ugly car with all round edges and no real room inside. I want Pea.

Important life lessons # 2 (#1 being about the glue)

Going to bed with wet hair is a bad idea. I'm sporting a very baabaa sheep look on one side, the other is flat and boring.

I look like Krusty the Clown with one side of his hair shaved off.

Evil me.

I must be too much in character nowadays. I'm a regular Dr. Evil, I tell you!
OK, explanation maybe?

At work I was set to clean the pumps (as in gas pumps). Diesel stains are hard to get off, so you have to use a "de-greaser". At least that's what we call it.
Anyway, it's really scary stuff, smells awful and has loads of orange warning signs on the spray bottle.

So... at the last pump I discover something. A daddy-long-legs. Not an ordinary one, but a larger, icky-looking one. Me looks at spray bottle in hand, looks back at spider, flashes evil grin and sprays it.
Well, what happens? At first, nothing! And the evil in me goes "WTF? You're supposed to die, bastard!"
Then I notice one of its legs starting to curl up and the whole body twitching. The poor thing walks in a circle, then gives one last twitch and falls over dead.

It was awful! It's the first time I've actually felt sorry for a spider (I'm a tad bit arachnaphobic). I mean, stepping on it would have been so much more merciful. But noooo, Kjersti tortures it to death, yeah!

Dr. Evil, I tell you!

Next step - the world!

I had my first day back at school today. It looks liket this year will be a real exciting one.
It's basically all about one part writer's workshop and one part "cultural stories". For the workshop we have a published writer as a tutor and mentor, and we are to keep a blog on our progress as well as writing assignments. I almost get giddy thinking about it, because it sounds like so much fun! :)

Our class has doubled this year as well. Because the bachelor degree is module-based, new students can take this year's two modules together with us and do the three modules we've just finished next year. So, that meant a whole lot of new faces today.

And we have a new homeroom. The fanciest one. With a high, slanted ceiling and an indoor balcony (dunno what they're called) with a sitting area. Oh, and a piano. And a "backyard amphi".
Seriously ass-kicking!

And Karla? Your evil minion is moving up on her power ladder. I was voted class representative. Apparently, I can talk. Duh! I'm thinking more the lines of... no one else wanted to have the responsibility. But I don't mind. It's just a fitting part of my evil plan. Ahhhhh the rush of power, before you know it I will be ruler of the entire world!
And I have a mini-me also. Whose name I forgot. But he already answers to mini-me, so I'm well on my way of training him.
And I think I need to start bringing Monster to school. And re-name him Mr. Bigglesworth. Then I can stroke him in that corny Dr. Evil fashion. I even trained with him this afternoon. Gimme a week or two and I'll have the evil-pat down perfectly.
But I refuse to shave my hair. I mean, I need to draw the line somewhere.

One last thing, mental note to self: lay off the coffee tomorrow. Unfortunately I've gotten myself into the habit of drinking that stuff and it makes me completely hyper.
Good thing about it is that I talked to a lot of my new class members today. Bad thing, they probably think I'm a maniac.

Peroxide + dark haired boyfriend = fun.

I dyed my hair today, it was in desperate need of some proper colour. I always use a combo colour, first a base colour and then highlight it.
Well, I had a lot of highlight stuff left over, and asked Love if I could play with his hair.
He was game, of course. He's nuts.
Now he looks very... weird. And I'm doubled up from laughing.

Heavy metal...

... or something like it?
"Just want you to know" music video.
This has had me in fits of laughter the whole day! I am old enough to remember the 80s and especially the rather awful parts of it, and this is one seriously funny parody.
And very refreshing to see a "boyband" that doesn't do the sex-appeal thing for once (OK, I won't speak for all of us, maybe this is appealing to some people?).
Yeah, I know... "old heroes". Go on, mock me if you must.
But I thought it was hilarious, just so you know! :)

Noooo!

This summer, our landlady took in a gorgeous male tabby that someone obviously had just left behind when going on their holidays. He was bone-showing-through-skin skinny, but sweet and friendly as they get and Love and I were so happy she took him in.
But she can't keep him. He doesn't get along with her other female cat, Lilly, as in seriously not getting along. So if she can't find him a home, she'll take him to the vet to have him put down.
It breaks my heart, he's one of the most adorable cats I've ever seen.
And we can't take him because of the piggies. The cage is too big to kitty-secure and the cat is a bit hunter-ish too, so it wouldn't work.

Did you know?

You learn something everyday. Me, I learned that superglue marked with "dries in seconds" actually dries in seconds. Litterally seconds! And sometimes even a tiny nozzle can produce a lot of glue at once. Thank everything holy I had brains enough to pull my fingers apart before it dried (and letting go of the cow's ear I was glueing onto my cow sugar dish). Now that would have been a sight for sore eyes, me with six fingers glued together and in addition, having a cow's ear attached to one of them.
Scary stuff, that superglue...

Oh, and Love gets a badge today, for sleeping like a log. There was a thunderstorm last night, and I woke up, terrified. Ran all around the apartment to yank out all the plugs and tried to get Love awake to keep me company. Well, he slept like a baby. This morning, when I asked him, he hadn't noticed anything. Not the thunderstorm, nor the lightnening bolts that lit up the entire bedroom, nor me clinging on to him, whimpering.
Yeah. He gets a badge for that one.

Oh.my.goodness!

I'm at a loss for words. The reason? This!
I mean... Holy shit! You can actually buy a home like this? If you have a couple of million euros that is, of course, but... dayum!
My jaw's on the floor (painful!) and I can't believe my eyes.
I'm in love! Baroque exterior and jugend interior? Can it get any better? And the park around it... pretty just doesn't cover it (and I must be a sick f*cker, 'cause I had a few kinky ideas viewing those photos *lol*). But of course, it would require a gardner. Hmm... Note to self, buy lotto coupon today and win enough to buy castle, kick-ass furniture and keep a gardner. Oh, and perhaps some money for a new car also. Dunno. Maybe Pea will behave in warmer weather.
But it would be weird to be a castle owner and drive around in a rusty, moody piece of junk. Or maybe not? It would not draw attention!
Oh goodness... going to drool some more over the photos now.
