The life of Kjersti and general rants.

Food meme

It's been a while since I had a proper meme, so I pilfered this from Karla.

1. How do you like your eggs?
In general, I don’t mind eggs, as long as they’re not runny. My favorite is omelette though.

2. How do you take your coffee/tea?
Coffee must have milk, or little bitterness. I can handle black coffee as long as it’s not that thick, sour goop some places serve you (shame on you, Colorline!). When it comes to tea; I don’t like black or green tea. I only drink herbal or infusion tea, and preferably bare.

3. Favorite breakfast food:
Oatmeal porridge or taco leftover salad.

4. Peanut butter:
Now there’s a forbidden item… It’s been at least 5 years since I last had peanut butter. But it’s not THAT yummy, so don’t feel bad for me.

5. What kind of dressing on your salad?
If any, I use sour cream (rømme). But I always add lemon pepper to my salad.

6. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither. I don’t drink soda. (Dude, do I sound like a total health freak or what?) I stopped drinking soda ten years ago, and now it’s just too sweet. I prefer carbonated water with a drop of lemon.

7. You're feeling lazy. What do you make?
If I’m lazy, we eat out! Or, I nag hubby into cooking. But my quick and easy dinners usually involve hot dogs or “fiskegrateng” you put straight in the oven.

8. You're feeling really lazy. What kind of pizza do you order?
The last couple of times our favorite pizza has been not so favority. There’s something funky going on at the pizza place. But pepperoni and lots of cheese is usually a big hit.

9. You feel like cooking. What do you make?
Lately I’ve been experimenting with beans and chickpeas (to Hubby’s disappointment). I like throwing lots of veggies and chicken or pork into my bigass cast iron wok. I also love experimenting with spices. I’m the kind of cook who doesn’t follow recipes, but just throw stuff together.

10. Do any foods bring back good memories?
The smell of Christmas dinner is always nice. Other than that, I can’t say.

11. Do any foods bring back bad memories?
Red grapes make me want to puke sometimes, because that’s what I did one time after eating them as a kid. Sorry about getting too graphic, but they were not as nice when they returned.

12. Do any foods remind you of someone?
My nephew loves the Danish flat chocolate you put as a spread on bread. And Hubby is crazy about tacos.
Gulasch reminds me of my Oma, as she used to make so yummy gulasch when I was a kid.

13. Is there a food you refuse to eat?
Yes. Seafood (fish is OK, but seafood is… nasty). Brunost, leverpostei, caviar, white bread, innards, sheep heads (in certain parts of the country they smoke them and eat them, and the eye in particular is supposed to be a delicacy). Then of course there’s bugs, slugs and animals I’m used to seeing as pets (dogs, guinea pigs). Oh, and brussel sprouts. They’re FOUL! And I can’t stand meat that’s sinewy and fatty and… eek. Pure meat, please.

14. What was your favorite food as a child?
I’ve always loved pot roast, and mums brown gravy.

15. Is there a food that you hated as a child but now like?
If you count coffee, that’s one. Oh, and red meat, I couldn’t stand it as a kid, but now I love it.

16. Is there a food that you liked as a child but now hate?
Cereal. Soda. Brunost (but only as a toddler, apparently).

17. Favorite fruit and vegetable:
Veggies: Cucumber, lima beans, tomatoes, fresh spinach and not to mention, mushrooms.
Fruits: sour fruits and berries. Raspberries is a big favorite, pomegranate, watermelon, pineapple.

18. Favorite junk food:
Boller.
19. Favorite between meal snack:
Boller. Unfortunately. But fruit and nuts is also OK.

20. Do you have any weird food habits?
Probably. I am very picky about my breakfast. Here in Norway it’s usually two or three slices of bread with some ghastly brunost or liverpaté. Norwegian breakfast sucks.

21. You're on a diet. What food(s) do you fill up on?
Cucumber and tomatoes.

22. You're off your diet. Now what would you like?
Chocolate. Which is why dieting fails for me, I guess.

23. How spicy do you order Indian/Thai?
I’m above average Norwegian wimp, but I wouldn’t stand a chance anywhere else.

24. Can I get you a drink?
I can get my own drink, thank you.

25. Red or White Wine?
White. Or rosé.

26. Favorite dessert?
Anything with chocolate and I’m pleased. I don’t think you can get anything yummier than oreo dream cake though.

27. The perfect nightcap?
Not my thing. I rarely drink, at all. I can count on one hand how many drinks I’ve had this year.

My blogiversary!

Today is my fourth blogiversary!

I started this blog about four years ago, with my first proper entry on this very day in 2004.

It's strange thinking about how this blog contains four years of my life. And in those four years a lot has happened.

We've for instance been through three cars.
We've had and loved six piggies.
I've gone from being a student to graduating, and from being unemployed to having a great job.
Not to mention I'm married now.

Time flies by, it's scary.

Define "lucky"

What the hell?

Sanitary towels aren't the most interesting items in the world. Usually I buy *this* brand, but this weekend I got the *other* brand (of two leading brands here in Norway) because *this* one was unavailable.

What's so special about it? It's a "design edition", made to make your period more joyful.

First off, I don't think ANYTHING could make the monthly aches more joyful.
Second... what on earth do they mean by writing "Lucky you" all over the wrapper? I'm lucky that I'm not preggers? I'm lucky that I get my period, because not getting it means you're not a proper woman or even worse, too old? What the hell?

Another one said "It's that time of the month", as if it's a festive holiday or something.

Seriously... Stuff like that, at THAT time of the month just makes me cranky.

I know, I know...

The thing is, I'm mostly avoiding the computer when I'm at home. And when I'm at work, I'm supposed to be doing... work, you know, the stuff I get paid to do?

Which by the way mostly consist of regurgitating press releases or other tidbits I find while being utterly bored, looking for utterly uninteresting cases to regurgitate.

It's not all that bad, really. Some of the articles I write ARE interesting, but some are really daft too. Keyboards and blu-ray players is about as interesting as watching paint dry. But give me an article about SSD and I'm one happy camper!

Speaking of Camper... I gots myself some shoes the other day. Not Camper, but very similar in style. Italian posh expensive shoes. White Mary-Jane-like types. They were 70% off :D

See, inspired by a very brave colleague at work who had to literally DIG out her wisdom teeth the other week, I finally picked up the phone and called a dentist. It's been two years now... and I've been terrified. As my last one was a bit on the sadistic side. Anyway, they told me to come in that very day and I did.

I'm so proud! And afterwards I felt like I deserved a little prize for being so brave, but I couldn't find anything I needed or remotely wanted. Until the next day, when walking from the bus to work. I pass by a posh-we-demand-an-entrance-fee Italian sho place and saw the MJs on the 70% sales table.

Anyway... I'm not sure being so excited about a pair of shoes is entirely healthy for your psyche. And it sure is a major buddhism FAIL on my behalf.
But then again, I don't have to worry about that, seeing I'm not a buddhist. Hah!

I think that blurb about the shoes proves there's not much going on in my life these days. But then again, I could use some uninteresting months also. During this last year I've gotten two new jobs, bought an apartment and not to mention the engagement, wedding planning and the wedding.

And now I have the feeling our friends are popping out kids left and right. It's kinda scary, having gotten to THAT age, where you know everyone's settling down and reproducing...

And my mother in law asked me how I felt about baptizing kids the other day. I've told her we're not entirely strangers to the idea of someday having a kid, but there's a long way from saying that to walking around like a blimp, hamstering babygros and formula!

And with that question, she opened a can of worms... naturally. *big sigh* Baptism to me is so completely wrong, as I consider it a personal choice. Not to mention I would be a total hypocrit to stand in church, promising to raise the child as a christian. She claims that if we don't the child won't have a confirmation because it'll be too embarrassed to be baptized as an adult.

So? If the child is too embarrassed to do so, is the wish for a confirmation based on a religious belief or the desire for money?

Anyway, following that logic, one should register ones kid for every possible religion that pratices those kind of becoming-an-adult rites.

It just riles me. But then again, I don't have a kid. It's a non-issue. Thank goodness...

Summer is over. The leaves are starting to go yellow and it bugs me. I feel cheated, like I haven't had a proper summer. There weren't many hot, nice summer days this year. But maybe I should be thankful? Seeing I've been working all summer, it would have been a total bummer if the weather was lovely all the time?

Besides, working at home and practicing extremely casual fridays wasn't so bad either. A couple of days I actually did my work on our veranda, in a bikini, doing a feeble attempt at getting a tan while working. Not bad at all.

Well then... I've killed half an hour. Hooray! I hate slow days.
