(Bergens SK, Norway - born 31.01.75 - FIDE-ELO 2389)
Undoubtly the greatest chess talent in the history of Bergen and the greatest hope of Norwegian chess at least between Rune Djurhuus and Leif Erlend Johannessen, Fyllingen became the Norwegian junior champion aged 16 in 1991, later won the Nordic youth championship twice in a row, and fulfilled his IM-title before leaving the juniors.
Later demanding studies have taken their toll - Fyllingen is about as good now as in 1995, meaning able to defeat or be defeated by aynone in this field. He suddenly showed his potential three years ago, when winning the Norwegian Championship in front of both Agdestein, Djurhuus and Gausel. Unfortunately the latter then left himself so far behind that they never meet, so despite a sufficient performance the result was not accepted as a GM-norm for Fyllingen.
Starting as a master of counterplay, the home clubs primary hope now should be described as an all-rounder, whose strength is varying considerable from tournament to tournament. He is especially as White a gifted attacking player when allowed, but especially as Black his openings are not matching his ambitions. Getting more often into time trouble now and lacking some of the old magic to get out of them, he may be everything between a GM-candidate and a 2200-feeder here.
