When
I was a kid professionals in this business was called
commercial artists. And that was what I wanted to
be. No fireman, police officer or any of the other
small boy's dreams for me. And a commercial artist,
or rather graphic designer and web designer is what
I am to day. Past-up
and the graphic darkroom were kings when I studied
graphic design at the Art and Handcraft School in
Oslo back in the late 70'ies. Our craft was still
very much a handcrafted one. Few
professions have seen such a revolution in the last
30 years. Simple desktop publishing were followed
by powerful tools like Illustrator, Corel, PhotoShop
and PageMaker and then the Internet was introduced
with new challenges and new tools. It
has been a bumpy ride, but a very satisfying on.
And I feel that having experienced the profession
while it was still done by hand makes me able to
bring something into the work that few of those
who start up now can.
