NGC 1499 called California Nebula resembles the outline of California. Distance is 1,500 light-years and it is around 100 light-years long. It glows with the red light characteristic of ionized hydrogen. This picture is taken with a combination of LRGB filters making the color of the stars and a Ha-filter that makes out the red structure in the nebula. The picture is taken over several nights in nov-dec 2008. Follow the navigation menu and see the Ha-only version as well.
